Re-Upload:

Turns out I uploaded the wrong zip, so that game played itself, new upload disables that, nothing else. Game is still as jank and missing bits as it was before, you just have to click yourself now :D sorry about that.

  • Click side boxes to slide them in.
  • Progress bar indicates stage progress.
  • Each stage earns a cube.
  • Use cubes to buy automatic triggering of boxes (cost indicated next to auto-symbol/button)
Instructions if you don't to just work it out.

Disclosure

So full disclosure... I do not think this is a good game.

I had an idea going into the jam, but then got distracted with other things and didn't spend enough time on the project, which ultimately led to poor execution, no time to really pivot the idea once I realized it was a bit dull.

That said, uploading anyway, because we don't hide mistakes here at "Me, Myself,  and I .ltd"

Overview

So this was for the New Years Incremental Game Jam 2026. The theme was Inception, this was clarified to allow both the real meaning of the word, and the 'recursion' of the movie Inception. With a bonus challenge of no text, none, zero.

My idea was that you would tap on boxes to construct a larger box, repeatedly, each box progressing you to earning currency to automate each input over time.

The progression was the idea that once a stage is complete you zoom out to find the boxes you've been making are just the input boxes for the next box! (If you haven't worked it out, I went with the movie inception vs the words real meaning, so it's more focussed on recursion.)

I also decided to go all in on the idea of no text, and attempted to go with a super minimalistic experience. So most of the assets are just boxes, with a few select icons where I felt necessary. So really the big challenge here will be if people are able to understand the game and how to play.

Self Review

As mentioned, ultimately I don't think this is a good game, but we learn from these things... hopefully.

- Reverting to full manual mode on stage progression feels rough, especially when there's MORE boxes to click.

- The play state just moves from manual to automation and back again, there's no stage at which you can automate it, leave it going, but then gain speed from automation, if all nodes aren't automated progress stops.

- Without some kind of animation there's a bit of disconnect between the two stages, only having the colour really tie them together as one stage producing cubes for the next stage.

- Despite liking the idea of minimalism, I think my execution is a bit plain, could do with perhaps having a bit more in the way of subtle gradients, some gently rounded edges, basically more of a Mini-Metro style feel I think is what I would go for.

- Balance. I've never done an incremental before, and the idea I went with doesn't really give me a lot of levers to adjust for balancing. I think in future I'd go with an idea that I can a bit more easily apply standard equations and curves to that are common in incremental games.

Minus the whole staggering automation thing, there's a surprisingly good framework for something that lacks text entirely

yeah the lack of any text, numbers, and even minimal symbol use was a really fun challenge to think through.

Maybe one day post-jam I’ll revisit the idea and make it a bit more enjoyable and dare I say, more complete :D

You're right! This isn't a good game. No indication as to what to click / what can be clicked, squares disappearing from the progress bar and from beside the arrows without any indication as to why. I realized it was fully automatic so I tabbed out and let it run for a while, later coming back to... the main menu.

The working out how to play was always a risk going this minimal, definitely could be better with some more suggestive UI. And the lack of an end screen (returning to menu) was a time constraint choice, don’t expect anyone to play it that far through.

As for the automatic playing of it, yeah so it turns out I uploaded a test version that plays itself (was testing game duration) so that’s my bad :D

I’ve uploaded the correct version to fix this.

It looks like there's still not enough here to be an enjoyable game just yet.
- You can start automation but can't improve it
- The automation is staggered based on when you started them so everything goes off-sync, making it less efficient since they're only producing squares under certain conditions
- You can waste your currency by pressing the arrows repeatedly
- A display bug regarding the currency UI when moving between colors (in my case, it showed I had 1 green currency when I really had zero)

oh completely agree, its very much a “didn’t put enough time in, but wrapped something up for the jam end anyway” kind of project.

There’s a lot I would do differently if I put more time in, maybe I will post-jam.

But I appreciate the feedback and for playing all the same.
