Gold Rush

Still work in progress, might try and squeeze some more bits in before the jam deadline. Specifically the background music... I hate it, please feel free to mute it in the pause menu.

So What is this?
Gold rush is my attempt and throwing together some kind of game for the GBJam14. The theme reminded me of some assets I had (the environment sprites) and I had the idea of trying a very basic Incremental type game.
The game is far short of what I would want, and as a result, I don't think it's all that much fun. But it was nice to try and prove a few things out. I think with more time and more importantly, more means of interaction with the world, an incremental game could work on the gameboy. Perhaps I'll find some time post-jam to try and push this to a closer representation of what I was originally thinking.
Once you unlock all the upgrades, there's nothing else to do but make number go up... how high can can you make it go before enough is enough?

Congratulations! I really liked the music. I hope you keep it up; I want to see how far this goes
Very cute! Love the art, and the controls are nice and intuitive! Nice audio adn very well implemented!!! I'd play a longer version, I wonder if there could be a secret story or goal to the mining?? Anyways, charming little game!
I think if I were to make a lonoger version, I’d probably try and set it up in GBStudio or just use GBDK so that it could actually run on hardware. But who knows what the future will hold :D
Really liked it, the visual and audio feedbacks are very well implemented!
It's fun. I wish shop was first option and I don't get to help every time :) Good job
Y’know what that’s a super valid point. Will see if I can find some time between work ending and the jam deadline to squeeze in a last minute change 😅
I got $200k :)
Hey there! A nice and simple incremental game!
Read the game's description a bit and I thought you'd like a few tips :
- Most fun in incremental games comes from player interaction with the environment (as you coined it), and mashing the a button to mine could already make the experience more engaging, rather than waiting for the cooldown ! :)
- More importantly, a lot of the time, having a direct feedback on screen (like tons of gold falling) can make your players satisfied. They will feel like theres real progress ongoing! Having big increments separated by moments of nothing is less engaging than seeing constant incrementation.
As for bug reports, I got sent to the shadow realm after hiring the mining guy (the loading screen stayed on).
The art is good! It really feels like a gameboy game! Nice job on getting this out for the jam !!
Yeah I didn’t want to add too much in the over the top visuals to try and keep more with the GameBoy limitation. That said probably could do some interesting stuff with animated tiles perhaps.
I’ve started adding a cave, but not sure I’ll have time to get more interactive elements in there for generation.
As for the shadow realm. Yeah I see that, fix on it’s way a bit later tonight though.
